There are 2 commonly asked questions when it comes to using Pinterest to promote items:

  • Can sellers use affiliate links to their own products?

  • Can Etsy sellers place affiliate links in pins?

The short answer is yes!

Here are quotes from Etsy's affiliate policy taken directly from their website:

"Etsy sellers are eligible for the Affiliates Programme and are now eligible to earn commission on sales from any shops, including their own."

That means Etsy sellers can use links to their own products. And yes, this means the seller will get the money from the sale, and earn a commission on the referral.

And how can you pin affiliate links to Etsy products?

"Pinterest - must own created content with link directing to your blog. Affiliate Links on Pinterest can only link directly to Etsy via Idea Pins, and content in Idea Pins must be own created"

This means you can link to a blog that contains posts, listicles, and articles that contain affiliate links in context, using regular pins, or you can link directly to Etsy using Idea pins.

"Own created" means the person doing the advertising has to create the images and marketing pins--you can't just steal images off the Etsy seller's site.

Probably a good idea anyway in case things change in the future.
